Discover the wild horses of Andalusia

Did you know that the mountains of La Maroma are home to the only population of wild horses in Andalusia? These majestic animals, which were abandoned by their owners around 2016, have found a new home in this mountainous environment. Over the years, they have developed unique skills to survive and reproduce in an environment that, whilst challenging, has offered them the freedom they need.

The story of these horses is a testament to nature’s resilience. Since their arrival at La Maroma, they have learnt to live in harmony with the landscape, becoming an integral part of the local ecosystem. It’s common to encounter them during our MTB routes through the sierra, where their presence adds a special touch to the experience. Seeing them gallop freely amongst the trees and rocks is a reminder of wildlife’s indomitable spirit.
