CLIMB THE HARDEST MOUNTAIN PASS IN SPAIN? IN ANDALUSIA.

Peña Escrita, located in the province of Granada, on the border with Malaga, is known as one of the toughest passes in Spain. The last 3 kilometres, with an average gradient of 14% and ramps of up to 27%, this final 3km is only open once a year.

Curiously, this area used to be a zoo that is now closed, which gives the route a special atmosphere. Recently, I recorded a video during my ascent of Peña Escrita, where we interviewed two Asturians who have conquered the Angliru, another mountain pass famous for its toughness. We asked them if they consider Peña Escrita to be more difficult and their answers are surprising.

Watch the video here:

and find out what they think about this incredible route.

Although its toughness may seem overwhelming and may not be the best mountain pass to climb on a road bike, it’s the perfect opportunity to put our e-bikes to the test.
